be at war with your vices;
at peace with your neighbors,
and let every new
year find you a better man.

~ benjamin franklin ~

i am practicing being at peace.

for example: i signed up for the novel in 90 thing that some of my flist peeps are getting involved with. then i realized that i was being a sheeple, that i would resent the bridle, and that i would find myself once again in a competetive morass that is both meaningless and misery-making. so i quickly unsigned.

then i ditched lj for the weekend and abandoned myself to the wonders of getting other things done.

i built my brother's gallery: JCARR Studios (not quite finished, but shaping up nicely ~ check it out!). i will work more on the rest of the site this coming weekend.

i also worked on my latest randomest writing/drawing project (about which i will say nothing so as to see where it will go in the next week or so).

i washed dishes, i did a wee bit of organizing, i watched two great movies this weekend (Children of Men and The General), and i started reading a fabulous book that was a gift from [livejournal.com profile] utter_scoundrel (and which came wrapped in bacon-paper no less! i am humbled by the joy).

all-in-all a great weekend and though a busy monday, i am feeling no pain.

now if it would just snow!

Holy canoli. Your brother's work is freaking amazing.

I'm so envious that you've seen Children of Men. Both it and Pan's Labyrinth are on limited release up here, which means I probably won't get to see it until they are released on video.

Glad that you had a great weekend, and I hope to see a snippet of the newest randomnest project :)

my brother is the bomb, it's true (hahahahaha).

i dunna think Children of Men will love much on video (though in the theatre is always a different experience). i hope you get to see it though, disturbing as it is.

snippet possibly forthcoming. i am still fence-straddling as to whether it's working out or not.

Hoi~! Your brother's work is not only amazing but incredibly freaky! The demon creature slicing off the top of that guy's head scared the bejabbers out of me! But the rest was so amazing, despite the scary subject matter in many of them~! Golly, how long does it take him? Hours? Days? That's just awesome!

And yay for getting things done! I finally finished packing, and am ready to roll now. Quite a relief to have that done. ^_^

A friend gave me a laptop for my Christmas/birthday present. I was astounded. Now I can work on my novels from afar! Which is good for I need to tweak my Kate and Jill story (Wings of Dragons) a little bit more. Three chapters don't mesh well with the rest of the book, and I need to fix that. So it'll be a fun project for my breaks!

I'm rambling on your LJ! And I wish it would snow too. It snowed for a day around new years day... but the snow lasted five hours. It was very sad.

a lot of these were commissions (to some skeery magazines and such) which is why they are very freaky. he's actually turned down some work (like for the band Slayer) because it was over the line in his book. especially since his main model is a teenager. sometimes he can paint something really fast. sometimes it takes him months (it's ridiculous how perfectionist he can be!).

i'm so excited for your laptop ~ yay! it'll be extra nice to be able to take your work with you and have it there to twiddle with as a break from your adventures.
