i'm supposed to be working on a presentation on codices for tuesday (eee!), which explains why i am here noodling in my livejournal instead.

kiped this one from [livejournal.com profile] queenoftheskies because it looked fun:

10 Signs a Piece of Fiction Was Written By Me

1. it's historical fiction (characters wouldn't know a car or a telephone if it bit them).
2. it's about soldiers, priests, native americans, or a dentist (or all four).
3. the protagonist is invariably male, has a foil, and usually stands outside the norm.
4. supernatural/mystical religious themes might be present (or undercurrent).
5. there's more than one one-word sentence.
6. there's no speaker attribution (not always, but it's becoming my style).
7. the antagonist is usually self-serving, a bigot, or simply misguided by a system.
8. romance isn't all that much, but love is everything.
9. the obstacles are always equally psychological and physical.
10. there are leitmotifs of snow, birds (owls and pigeons are most prominent), fruit (pears mostly), disfigurement/dismemberment (or blindness), and/or sexual assault

okay, back to the codex.

Have you studied anything about the Anasazi and how they myteriously dissappeared? If so I would love to hear your thoughts on it. :)

Re: On the subject of Native Americans & #4

haha!! I didn't expect that answer - they freak me out too though. According to Wikipedia they were most likely assimilated into other tribes of the region, but I dunno. I haven't read alot about the southwest tribes but I don't think they share the Anasazi beliefs on dimensional travel. When I worked at Philmont there were lots of ghost stories about them and one of the backcountry camps there is near an area that looks like a skull on a topo map - the eye socket is supposed to be a portal or a place where Wierd Stuff happens.
