yesterday i drew a hat.

over and over and over.

i can draw exactly two kinds of hats: top hats and military forage caps. anything else is just a mystery to me ~ even when i try to copy a model i can never quite get the brims or crowns right. which makes it no amount of trouble that i decided to give James a john bull hat. it's sort of like a top hat, but not and the difference, though subtle, is significant. so yesterday i drew hats until i finally figured out how to make it work. it probably sounds doofy, wasting a whole day on a hat, let alone getting excited about finally figuring out how to replicate it, but frankly, for someone who is as dimensionally challenged as i am, it's a pretty significant coup.

the hat

possibly more important (or more predictably, or more disturbing, even) is the fact that my attempt to illustrate Stars in Their Courses has gone from illustrations to sequentials once again. once the pictures get drawn, so much of the narrative seems superfluous. i like the narrative. it's still not much of a story, but the writing is fun (as much as a story like this can be called fun).

anyway, i have no idea what to do with it. keep plodding, i suppose. i want to keep writing, though. i'm dreadfully behind on other projects and there are deadlines looming.

it's nice to have the day off. i have a cold and it's kind of snowy, so it's nice to stay in and drink tea and fritter away the time on doodling and such.

hope the rest of you who have the day off are enjoying it ~ for that matter, hope you are enjoying the day regardless of whether you have it off.

Hats! I think it is a very worthy pursuit to spend a day drawing hats! Now you are a hat master. ^_^

Today may turn out to be an interesting day for me. Though that may depend on if I can summon the energy to wander out on my errands. It's so cold out there, and it's warm and here, and all too tempting to just curl up, sip some tea, and write random scenes.

so did you wander? i got as far a throwing the trash, but that's about it ~ hahahahaha.

i hope you managed some random scenes. i think i will spend the evening reading perhaps. it's lovely and white outside ~ nice and crunchy under the feetsies!

Aw, I did manage to wander! I tried to visit the bank, but it was closed, so to the store I went for much needed supplies. It was snowing when I headed back.

Sadly, no scenes were written. Well, two lines were written, so I suppose that is better than no lines at all.

well at least you managed to get out for supplies ~ that's good!

maybe those two lines will be great springboard for a future date. sometimes it's just enough to get the gears in motion on a rusty afternoon.

Doesn't sound doofy at all; in fact, makes perfect sense to me.

always good to know you haven't deep-ended into doofville somewhere along the way.

well it's a wonderful hat!

We all have our artistic waterloos. ha (mine are horses--particularly the jaw and legs) I admire your perseverance...I tend to give up and fake it with horses.

You ended up with a superb hat. YAY. :-D

me, moo

P.S. hope you feel better soon

Re: well it's a wonderful hat!

i used to be better with horses ~ i feel like i am struggling with them lately. thank you for loving the hat. it needs love given the torture i put it through. the nice thing is, now i can draw it from just about any angle in the universe and it looks pretty okay.

and i do feel a wee better, thankie ~ hope it lasts.
