wow. i think i hate this book.

like, really hate it.

it's entirely possible i burned out a gasket reading Poore's transcript (twice). i think i've memorized it. go ahead, ask me anything.

: o p

so i have some 40-50k words or so (and some of them even go together in something like complete sentences), but nothing here really jumps out at me as "keeper" material. maybe i'm just sick of the subject matter, but i feel like all i've been doing is rearranging the vegetables on the plate. like all of this stuff has been said before and i'm not really adding anything new to it.

right now my favorite exchange (and i didn't even write it) is:
on answering to an objection while cross-examining a witness for the prosecution:

Poppet: The man comes here as an "expert", and I want to find out what kind of an expert he is.

AJA Bing (clearly confusing the witness with someone else): He was an expert, I believe, designated by the counsel himself in the first place.

Poppet: He was never brought into court by me.

AJA Bing: He was designated by you, and we understand very well why you did not bring him into court.

Poppet: He was never selected by me.

AJA Bing: I understand so, but if you say no, well and good.
way to follow the score there, Bing.

i may be the only person on earth who finds this hilarious, but perhaps my amusement with it is a fair indication of how far i've turned at this point.

it's entirely possible there's nothing wrong with the book as it's written thus far and that other people would find it at least vaguely interesting. but as it fails to set me on fire, into the trash it goes.

bye bye book! bye bye!

round two anyone?

how many days do i have left anyway? 13?

sure. i can write a book in 13 days.

p.s. i was going to post a lolrus as the picture of the day, but have decided i should retire quietly with an ice pack instead.

Dont give up churchie...there can be no barge without the Chammy.

Well and good, and all manner of things well and good.

i think between this exchange and Bing's rant about "if we ever hope to get through this trial even if we get to be as old as Methuselah..." you can almost find him bizarrely endearing for a rude, creepy bastard.

don't despair churchie ~ we will have our barge and Chammy.

dog.

If you put your manuscript under your pillow

The deadline fairy will bring you an extension. :-)

then maybe you can detox a little and get some love back (for the book).

Re: If you put your manuscript under your pillow

sometimes methinks the deadline fairy is a pushover ~ hahahahaha.

detox is good. i have other things to work on while i let this alone for a while ~ it's definitely feeling scabby and picked at.

hahahahaha ~

Erm - bye bye book? Maybe you're just in a little too close?

I'd still like to read....:)...if it survives the bin...

i was gonna submit for perusal a medley of opening scenes, but it sorta feels pointless to ask people to crit something you already know you're going to toss.

i've spent the weekend entirely too submerged in this stuff ~ maybe if i don't poke at it, i can come back to it with fresh eyes after a few days. last night i re-read parts of ron hansen's Mariette in Ecstasy to remember what it was i wanted to do with this story.

so, in good news, i'm duly reminded.

Ooooo! That books sounds interesting....

And, maybe not pointless? Could be that it helps the critiquers, and maybe it'll generate some stuff for you too? Dunno....just food for thought....:)

well i will work on it this weekend, i hope. mebbe something will surface.

and do read hansen's book ~ ! the subject matter may or may not be to your liking, but it's written in a really interesting style ~ very far out there, but manages to work like gangbusters!
