i just got done reading A Dark Brown Dog by Stephen Crane <~ thinking a little Crane might jumpstart my muse. wow. what a depressing story. if you are a dog-lover, beware ~ the pathos in this one might give you angina.
i think i had remarked somewhere earlier that for all my love of dogs, there are very few dogs in my stories. Sid talks about getting spotty dogs, but he never actually does it. James has Buster the bloodhound and Toby the ratter, but they're both gone by the war. Alain's family has Great Danes if i recall correctly (but i've not written them), and there is the mysterious black dog in Eleison who may or may not have a story line (descended from the black dog called Shadow in Razi-el's Dream which i cut because it was just too complicated; one of those overwrought metaphors ~ you know the types). otherwise, no one owns a dog and, in fact, Amy is terrified of dogs and so you'll never see a dog in the Fletcher house (they have cats!) I don't know what becomes of Preston's dog during the war (Auggie). that's another one that just vanishes, it seems.
i think someone needs a dog. maybe Art. or the Gardners. no one at the asylum. that just doesn't seem "right". and i can't imagine Morse with a dog ~ he has his owl. but somebody needs a dog ~ that's for sure. James makes the most sense and at one time i seem to recall he had hunting dogs. have to revisit that.
was it bishop sheen who had a ratter? i can't recall now. perhaps it was one of the cardinals. had some little terrier he took with him everywhere. (totally random query).

i'll dig up my outline/notes for locust since i have not looked at it in a good long while.
as far as music, feel free to come up with something ~ we talked about the "feel" of it a while back ~ then everything could have continuity. maybe i can come up with a graphic of some sort ~ i'll see what you do and then try to complement it.
: D
exciting!
