EPISODE TEN
Taking a Walk
The pot boils over. William Fletcher gives Lewis an ultimatum, James tries to assuage Emmaline's fears that they'll never settle in with some bizarre results, and Amy takes a walk (and more!) with a very interested young caller.
Excerpt:
They sat under a tree off the path. Amy combed her fingers through the dry yellow grass. "Earth's cold," she said. "Bet the weather will turn soon."
"You miss the country?" Raoul asked, taking her hand.
"I do," she said.
"You have country hands. Big fingers. Short nails."
She started to pull away, though he held fast. "I have awful hands," she said. "Aunt Liesel wants me to wear gloves all the time when I'm out. The cold doesn't bother me though."
"I wasn't criticizing," he said earnestly. "I like your hands. They're warm and they're strong. And they smell like grass."
She laughed as he sniffed her fingers. He was sitting very close and leaned closer still.
"I like that," he said, and kissed her suddenly.
Amy was startled and said nothing.
"You don't mind do you?" he asked, seeing the look of surprise on her face.
She suddenly felt uncomfortable. "Well, actually," she fumbled for the words. "I...I...."
