illustration no. 2023: hodge and james discuss parquet flooring
{ yeah, i know ~ what the heck? }

i keep forgetting to time myself. this was pretty spontaneous and feels like it didn't take me that long. the results are passable, i think. i'm beginning to see a weird theme in this thing: everyone's missing "parts" ~ odd that i didn't realize that before. it's like writing a historical series about the Island of Misfit Toys or something. and when i think about the asylum and the lives of the limbless there, i know it's just going to get worse and weirder. hmmmm.

i've done about eight of the twenty i need to do, which is pretty depressing. i'm just so bad at picking the scenes to draw (i mean, come on, parquet flooring?) ~ some of the others aren't quite this bad, but i do start second-guessing about my writing when i don't feel like drawing any of the scenes i've written (am i boring myself?).

i have so many things i should be working on right now.

story of my life.

triscuit anyone?

And I like this pic! XD The lighting, the shading, and the watercolour-esque effect. *^^* And the facial hair! You rock at that. *dies* XD

*takes triscuit* Thankee.

I don't think the fact that you're not sure what to draw reflects on your writing. But it might be easier to let someone else choose it for you? Because impact becomes subjective. I had one story illustrated, because it had been a pretty big deal. Well, my illustrator had read it before she knew she'd be doing the work -- and in some cases she very much disagreed with my choices of what to have drawn. You see what I mean?

that makes a lot of sense ~ don't know who i would get to choose, but i think you're right that other people see stuff in a way that we don't.

i think that's really cool that you had something of your own illustrated ~ i love to see how others filter the material through their own eyes.

when will the collection of your writings be published? Which ones will the initial publication contain?

the only thing i have on the hopper at the moment is Eleison, which is going to press just as soon as that pesky cover is finished (figure it will be available mid-July).

i've got bigger plans for small press work in the coming year, but at the moment am just getting a feel for the ins and outs of it, so it's a learning process.

i will likely be posting information pretty soon about where people can find/order Eleison though, having no distributor, it'll probabaly be through the internet initially.

Look forward to seeing it! :) I'd also look forward to learning the steps of the process too if you ever want to journal about it. :)
