this one is for [livejournal.com profile] lanyn who suggested this image with the title "the last full measure" as a prompt. the scene that popped into my head turned out to be really interesting to me because it will eventually take the characters in an interesting direction emotionally.

in the chronology of the story, this scene falls in after Antietam, after news of the emancipation proclamation has reached them ~ hence the "joke". i have the next set of panels in this sequence drawn, so i will try to post it relatively soon. this is the set i was sort of itchy about posting because of the racial slur, but i think this scene is especially about ignorance, so it's apropos (and just accurate, unfortunately).

Excellent ...

I think it's very touching. It's particularly well drawn too.

Hope you had a nice T-Day, boo boo.

Wow, that's a really powerful one, Boots, and it wouldn't work nearly so well without the slur. I like the look of the scruffy guy in the first frame.

thank you ~ ! the scruffy guy is william peterson (no relation to the actor). for whatever cruel reason, it heartens me to know he's going to come to a bad end (and soon).

thank you for such a great prompt!

It should provoke a reaction, should make people uncomfortable... thereby, you know you have done well.
