say buh-bye to poitry month:
to children of daedalus

there
and reach all the while

squinting reptile

tears
no waxenwings do not make kings

nor hands take hold of sunlight's gold

but plunge untold
in ribbons of fire

bleeding paintbright desire.

apropos to everything i watched ray milland in The Lost Weekend yesterday. sometimes i think if i could have only been a drunk or a drug addict or obsessed with doing my hair i could lose myself far far away.

school is over. that's good.

i'm one spur short of hanging 'em all up. scrambling for meaning at the eleventh hour here.

as an act of self preservation, i've started a new Big Secret project (because God knows the seventeen i have in process aren't nearly enough).

the Big Secret project's big secret codename title is Goodie Proctor's got my Poppet.

just a few facts
yes, of course this is a historical piece. it takes place technically after the Civil War.

unlike most of my historical fiction, this one will have fewer fictional characters than real-life ones.

i'm confining my research to three main sources.

i'm not doing any extended research except to see if there exists some useful basic biographical information on my lead character, about whom i know almost absolutely nothing.

i need a "model" poppet ~ yes, the codename title is total goofweed, but there will be a poppet in the story (as a sidekick). i was imagining it to be wooden (and not wearing a dress), but i'm thinking a slave's doll might be an interesting choice. any doll afficionados on my flist?

starting today, i have 82 days to bang out a draft of this project (not a random number).

because of the subject matter, this one may have some commercial viability (oh nooooooo!)
happy monday all.

Yay for school being out! Yay for the 18th Big Secret Project! Makes me wish I had a secret project, but alas, I don't. Hmph. Must ponder this lack. :-D

Projects!

It's better to have too many than not enough. *

This one sounds fun (from the little you spilled about it).

I have a little doll from the right time frame but he's not wooden and he IS wearing a dress (he's a baby). I think I scanned Lil' Walter for you once ...didn't I? He's a poppet.

I like the last lines of the poem very much--who wrote it?

boo-boo

Re: Projects!

i remember lil' walter ~ !

yeah, i was pretty much imaging something like that, but maybe floppier. i have considered changing the poppet to a little dog named poppet. turns out my main character wasn't yet married and has no children, so a grown man with a doll might be a little creepy or seem to indicate he's loony (and i don't want that).

p.s i didn't so much write that poim as sorta blurge it off the keyboard, but thank you!

p.p.s. can i have volume xxiii of MRFL? i want to read ahead for the next time.

Re: Projects!

Yay for poem blurging!

How about a dog named poppet who has his own poppet (doll)?... or maybe not. hahahahha

I have to say no on the MRFL, there's only the one copy and it's under constant revision (as I eat my words) heh.

a dog with a poppet is an interesting idea ~ not sure if it would work, but i just might try it!
