i have my material weaknesses: books, movies, good cheese, fine port, sushi, good-quality paint, etc.

the most extravagant of these, however, is italian boots. i only own one pair of footwear at a given time and my boot of choice is cole-haan. i've been wearing the same pair of cole-haans for six years now and, finally employed again, i decided it was time to retire the poor, beaten things (they're about four weeks away from needing to be re-soled again and that's too much money to throw after boots that are clinging by their last threads). six years was a good run for a pair of boots that saw use nearly every day of all those years. they were ridiculously high-end boots when i bought them (even at the outlet bargain tag, which was half-off retail). but they were worth every penny and i will keep them as backups for the time being.

and now i bought a new pair of mid-range cole-haans (for a steal of a price even!). they arrived last week, but today i am breaking them in with a first-time outing.

anyone who's ever bought craftsman leather shoes knows that breaking them in can be a bit of a trial. with boots it's doubly so because it's not only the foot covering you have to break in, but all the way up to the calves. and, like a new car, all those first scuffs, bends, and scratches just make you flinch!

i may want to chop my legs off from the knees down at the end of today, but i know in a week they'll fit as snug and supple as socks.

i love them already.

!!!

:just dies:

My beautiful, wicked boots are languishing in my closet due to the resurgence of my tendinitis. I've been stuck in the beautiful fall season in sneakers.

ANGELS AND MINISTERS OF GRACE TAKE ME NOW.

a pox on tendinitis!

a worse fate, i cannot imagine ~ i will keep you and your boots in my prayers.

I, too, have expensive tastes. All those things on your list are also on mine :)

And, don't even get me started on boots....yours are freaking gorgeous! But, man, doesn't the breaking in process suck? No one will know that you're suffering though - they'll just admire those fantastic boots!

gimme a fine pair of boots an' i'll kick the...

~ ahem!

they are fine, they are.

Oh, lovely. I'm envious; too heavy to wear something like that, they'd never fit my calves.

that's a real problem with boots ~ lot of times they make them way too narrow and the leather doesn't give enough. these are pretty snug, but they'll loosen up.

I remember your boots from Austin High. Funny thing is I've been wearing Chuck Taylors for about as long. Once you find something you like, you stick with it, I guess....

oh wow ~ that's hilarious that you remember ~

yup, still wearing 'em.

if it ain't broke, don't fix.

Boots are lovely, and those especially! ^_^ I have a problem with plantar ficitiis, and so I need special heel and arch support. So sadly, boots are rare for me. T_T My arch is abnormally high, and boots just don't support it enough to elevate the pain. Though I must admit I do need new arch and heel supports in my current sneakers since the pain is creeping back. (My lovely hiking boots are such fun to wear, but they can be quite painful at my job. Maybe I can find some special supports that can slide inside and help with this problem...)

Not that you needed to know the details of my feet problems. ;D

awww ~ my sister also loves boots but can't wear them because she has thick calves and needs more arch support.

i feel lucky!

i think they do make supports, though ~ you ought to look into it!

Oooh, I dig those! I'm a boot person myself, particularly when winter strikes. Course, mine tend to be warm snow boots, but they still look cool.

i'd like to get another pair of boots for the snow ~ these aren't the sort you would want to wear while slogging through salty ice slush ~

~ mebbe i can find some for not too expensive before the white stuff starts to fall.

thanks ~ !

i'm not wearing them today, but prolly will tomorrow. it's gonna take a while to get them up to speed.

spiffy!

I love them too and I love that you have them.

Yay for bootsie's boots.

I'm glad to hear about all the reading you're doing --once certain nameless peeples got out of your hair you seem to have moved on to doing constructive things (like reading)

But I do wonder what will become of all the unanswered burning questions ...(mine as well as yours).

In other words,

I'm missing you~

love,
nameless

Re: spiffy!

oh for the love of burning questions! so many questions, so few answers! i've taken to posting them here in my journal for want of you ~ where they languish most tragically!

mebbe one day your connection will get better moomoo!

hang in there ~ make use of pie liberally.
