I've been writing a wee bit on "The View from the Back Porch" this morning and have decided that i'm undecided about how to spell Morse's brother's name.

in other news, i think i will submit "The Hot Spot" to Zoetrope's 10th Annual Short Story Contest (thanks
tiellan for the heads up!). it'll cost me $15, but i'm confident that it could compete (and with the prize being possible representation by william morris??? get outta town!)
it's just a matter of tightening it up. as is, the story runs about 2k over the guidelines. that's fine though since it can be trimmed a lot to make it a stand-alone. Just really have to sit down with it and make it work. my main concern is whether i should end it with the confession or just the intimation. it'll be fun to play with it a little.

i know, it's silly to worry about such a thing, but the character's name is pronounced "Mish" and it would just weird me out for people to call him "Mick" or "Mitch". So maybe even though it's properly spelled "Mich" (as in literally short for Michigan), i should go ahead and nickname him "Mish" with an "s".

i think i'm safer hedging off the possibility of a hard "ch" by just not using it.
