i'm doing my homework.
i thought it was going to be this huge difficult pain in the rear so i was putting it off, but it turns out it's a piece of cake (so now i'm goofing around in another way) ~ it's all good: two more pages of an essay and i'm done. cataloging is easy! but then i have a brain for minutiae.

i started writing this long post about "buddy stories" and the curse of homoeroticism, but i think that's kinda heavy for a holiday monday. i thought it might be good because it's memorial day and people would be all agreeable about what i was ranting about...oh well, maybe i'll post it tomorrow.

i'm so addled by the heat (what's with the record temps? didn't i move to minnesota to get away from this weather?), that i banged my head on the shelf in the kitchen when i leaned to fill thee dogfood bowl.
now i have a dehydration/concussion headache.

writer's workshop today yielded no rotten fruit thrown in my general direction, so i feel mildly okay with the new start for the book. mildly. it feels heavy on the exposition and history junk. i like my description of General Winder getting blown up, but the rest of it feels dry to me. it could be that i'm just saturated to the gills with having spent the week reading official battle reports. i'll let it sit and move forward.

this poor handsome devil
is the first croaker named in my book.
happy memorial day to you,
General Charles Sidney Winder, CSA (1829-1862).
He was class of 1850 at West Point.
KIA, Battle of Cedar Run (Slaughter Mountain).
32 years old.
and it begins to rain! relief! thank you God!

Oooooo...*dreamy sigh*. I'm envious...I've been away from an academic library for far too long and I can't wait to be able to do such things again!
Sorry about the dehydration/concussion though...take care of your noggin, please! :)
(And, I'm looking forward to your essay on homoeroticism!)

dunn if i'll post the thing about homoeroticism. it was mostly a rant against slash fanfict and how it's made me a paranoid writer ~ i think just pouring it on the page got it out of my system (for now). hahahaha ~
do you ever find yourself obsessing over pre-emptive critical measures? having been trained in the theatre (which is considered collaborative by nature), it's really impressed on a writer that there's no staving off other people's appropriations/interpretations. but i really feel grimly about the overwhelming homoeroticism of men friends in movies and books.
like, the crew of h.m.s. surprise is all playing hide-the-salami when off duty and the lone ranger and tonto are secret lovers. kimo sabe indeed.
okay, maybe it's not quite out of my system ~ hahahaha

Yep. I think about this all too much, probably because of the stage training I've had....everything is about how one is perceived, right down to which foot is forward (I was mostly involved in 17th and 18th cent opera, so I learned the language of fans and hand gestures and such....).
I, too, am a bit dismayed about the concept of male friends...I read a huge article about how Sam and Frodo were gay, and how Peter Jackson's treatment of them in the movies was a huge disservice to the gay community...Maybe they were gay. Maybe they were just friends....But....anyhow....grr.....lol...
Hide-the-salami....snort.....lol....

I hear you about the heat. It SUCKS. I'd love to live in a place where the temperature is a constant 65 degrees. That'd be heaven on earth. :-)
Hang in there you.
