this painting by Chagall (and this moment in the Bible ~ Genesis 18) cracks me up. guess that says a lot about my sense of humor, but c'mon, think about it: it's funny!

and falls short of Rublev in every way

it's called "Abraham and the Three Angels" and i think it hangs at the
Musée National in Nice, France.

it's one of my favorites of chagall ~ and i don't think i'd ever compare him to rublev (apples and oranges, i think).

chaggy corners the market on whimsy, i think ~ it's why i love his work so.

I love the figure of Abraham but I really think
the Angels fall short...I mean, you know the
story, these guys are going to Sodom? geez...
look like theyll fit right in.

i don't think angels eat granola ~ way too healthy (all that fiber! like they need it).

i think they'd rather have a bowl of fruit with sugar or cream.

they don't eat granola because they need fiber. They eat it because they're hippies. Angels just have to be hippies.
I think Chagall has it just right they wear pastel dresses and go barefoot and eat granola at picnics.
