watched The Widow of Saint-Pierre (a french film). juliette binoche is always great and in this she's superb. i didn't really know much about what this was about before i popped it in and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't at all what i expected. the art direction alone is incredible. the palette of reds throughout the film are amazing. someone really knew what they were doing. excellent costumes, a really fine (and infuriating ~ in the good way) script. this is excellent filmmaking: drama, suspense, and i like that it's not trashy (i can see the hollywood version: it would have menage-a-tois written all over it ~ yuck). lovely period details without being overwhelming, and a great cast all around. two thumbs way up.
