yes, they made City of Angels sort of based on his idea in Wings of Desire, but (in my not-so-humble opinion) City of Angels was an amazing turd of an homage compared to the original. i have no idea what the director was thinking with that drek.
Wings of Desire is an amazing film: life affirming, beautiful, and without being corny or sentimental. The sequel Faraway, So Close! doesn't take itself quite as seriously, but is a wonderful romp worthy of being called a sequel. City of Angels basically strips all of the charm and appeal of what makes the Wender films so amazing and you're left with treacle and moody whining.
