was going through my books and rediscovered a lost treasure:
probably more than 15 years ago, someone (i don't even remember who) found an old stamp album in an abandoned car. it was covered with a homemade felt cover that was all rotted and it had been soaked through so the pages were all warped. but the stamps survived and somehow, though the book has long been thrown away, i still have what was inside of it:
hundreds of stamps from all over the world dating from the 1920s through the 1940s (and some from the 1950s).
most of the stamps are american and german, it seems, and the collector was pretty meticulous about filling the book with every issue. obviously many are missing, but it's rather a large and very neat collection. i have no clue what it's worth. the european selection comes from everywhere: france, belgium, great britain, china, madagascar, the netherlands, india, iran, spain, portugal, etc.
if anyone knows anything about stamps or knows anyone who knows anything, tell them to post here ~ i'd love to find a home for these lovelies who have weathered a long life and come through great hardship. i'm sure most of them are mildly worthless, but there are also probably a good many gems in the lot. i'll probably go pick up a collector's guide and try to get a sense of what the pile is worth. they're all single stamps, all cancelled, and almost all still in great condition for their age (the collector took good care and it seems that the book itself sustained the water damage, not the stamps).
i scanned a handful of them for grins ~ the american ones for the most part are in a book i have over there on my shelf, already separated out by date, etc. so i didn't pull those down to scan. these are primarily the foreign hoardes. i would guess there are 400-500 in the whole kit and kaboodle? hard to tell when they're just in a huge pile. could be less.
