Never worry about offending people. You can't please everyone. Oh, what a cliche, but it's true. Unless you're revelling in being offensive so much that you come across as a hog rolling in filth, most smart people will realize you're not doing it just to shock. I probably didn't state that as well as I could, but I think you get the idea...
I disturbed myself last week by thinking of a disturbing image, then taking that image and forming it into the first line of a potential short story, then thinking, "I'm writing that down in my journal as soon as possible and try to find a way to base a story around it!"
