possibly two of the most obscure books in my 50bookchallenge:

no. 14 ~ History of Dentistry in Pennsylvania, 1868-1968 by isaac sissman. this book has some inneresting stuff about 19th century dentistry, but overall is too broad and too unparticular for my interests (if that's possible). it mostly focuses on the Pennsylvania State Dental Association, which isn't too useful to me. oddly enough, i found more relevent information on the training of 19th century dentists in a biography of Doc Holliday (who received his D.D.S. from the dental school i'm interested in). this had a few good tidbits, though, so not a total loss.

no. 15 ~ The Other Side of the Mountain by michel bernanos. sometimes, just cruising the aisles in the library, i randomly pick a book off the shelf. this is a little french book that tells the incredibly bizarre story of a man who gets semi-shanghaied onto a ship that subsequently suffers a mutiny after being becalmed for nearly 60 days. the crew eats the captain and several other sailors, then a storm finally blows everyone else overboard, and two men (the ship's cook and the narrator) float for days before finally finding land. then the island's fauna tries to eat them and eventually they are turned to clay.
