i'm already a huge fan of Murnau's work (Faust, Nosferatu), and i finally got to see Sunrise.

oh man, what a great film. i'm not even going to say anything about the plot except that it's a romantic film ~ the less you know the better: just watch it! this movie has is all ~ the love story is lovely, the terror is terrifying ~ it takes you from one end of the spectrum of emotions to the other. Mary Poppins would say: it's practically perfect in every way.

and yes it's a very old film: 1927, black and white, silent with a handful of placards. but watching it is such a joy you forget it's not a talkie ~ and forget that it's made in the twenties ~ the acting is fairly natural (not overly stylized like most films of the era). the camera work is amazing and complex, the compositions gorgeous, and the accompanying score is also really nicely done ~ it carries the film beautifully (complete with squeaking drunk pig effects).

yes, i said drunk pig.

you know you want to see this movie!

if you love charming love stories and have a soft-heart and love a good tear-jerker/hair-tearer, this one's got your name all over it. if i had twelve thumbs, they would all be up up up.

: D

i hope i can find a copy for my collection ~ so far as i know it only comes in a boxed set with some other classics, but i just want the one film.

i'd like to see a show of hands for people who are interested in doing the piles of homework I have due next week.

anybody? anybody? c'mon: fun stuff! a "swot" analysis and an acquisition's list: you know you love it!

my ability to focus lately is so shot. i did some adr work today, but not nearly enough (and at this rate, i don't look to be picking it up again tonight. i've doodled some ~ will prolly doodle more while i watch the X-files (it's a good show to doodle with because you don't really have to keep your eyes on the screen all the time to enjoy it).

i'd like to finish the first scene of "The Red Door" this weekend (it's only three more pages, though i'll likely redraw page five again. i think one of my markers (which i use to ink) is croaking and i'm not sure i have another ~ and i was just at dick blick's ~ but hey, any excuse to go again, right?

okay, so: Lent.

lent starts next week and i've done nothing to prepare whatsoever. i'm going to go to confession tomorrow even if i don't feel like it because it can only get worse for dragging it along and making excuses.

that said, i haven't really made formal lenten plans. i'd like to go to mass more often (imminently do-able). i'd like to do the stations on fridays (like i used to at St. Mary's ~ man, i miss my parish ~ sob) ~ i'd also like to do some spiritual reading. this seems like a good time to pick up Heliotropium since it's sitting around just waiting to be read. as to the giving upness of things: still to be determined. my indulgences are so few ~ the computer, dvds, books. i can easily say i won't buy anything until easter, but given that i'm church-mouse poor that's hardly a sacrifice.

see what i mean about not being able to focus?

every time i turn the oven on, my dog freaks out. so now i'm debating whether to make a pizza.

stay tuned: it could get interesting as my procrastination anxiety mounts.
