I'm fed up with my career path (or I should say non-career path) ~ the high tech industry is the bowels of hades and being laid off four times in as many years does not engender my confidence of a future as an information developer.

I've not only had it with the industry, but I've had it with trying to make my way in a state I can barely tolerate 8 months out of the year (it's over 80 degrees today!).

I'm selling my house and moving to Minnesota.

No, I'm not kidding.

I'm applying to the College of Saint Catherine even now and I'm going to get accepted (doggone it) and get archival certification with an MLIS and get a real job with a real career path doing something I actually LOVE, in a city that doesn't swelter.

I have no idea how I'm going to accomplish this, but I'm going to do it.

Any of my friends in St. Paul-Minneapolis or close by?

No, I don't want to move in with you ~ just looking for tips, advice, warnings before I leap without a net.

The Prioress
You scored 2% Cardinal, 69% Monk, 55% Lady, and 40% Knight!

You are a moral person and are also highly intellectual. You like your
solitude but are also kind and helpful to those around you. Guided by a
belief in the goodness of mankind you will likely be christened a saint
after your life is over.
You scored high as both the Lady and the Monk. You can try again to get
a more precise description of either the Monk or the lady, or you can
be happy that you're an individual.

My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:
You scored higher than 1% on Cardinal
You scored higher than 99% on Monk
You scored higher than 60% on Lady
You scored higher than 36% on Knight

Excerpt:
"We've got work at the mill," said one of the jacks. "The money's good, but we got loyalties to Mr. Greerson. And we're looking to start cutting soon. We can't just drop everything."

Mr. Greerson, who was the owner of the eastern mill and who didn't get up to look at the plans, shuffled nervously.

"Yes, I spoke with Mr. Greerson," James said, glancing over to him. "And Mr. Hanover's proxy since Hanover's been dead these last twelve years. Greerson has agreed to shut down his mill and logging operation so that you boys can take advantage of this opportunity."

A noisy chatter broke out. "Shut down the mill?" the bunkhouse Cookie accosted Greerson hotly. "We ain't shut down the operation in 15 years, Greerson. What's going on?"

"Like he said, boys," Greerson offered apologetically. "This is just too good work to pass up. I can't pay you near that wage. You should take the offer."

"What's the catch?" master carpenter Hodgekiss asked.

All eyes turned to James suddenly. The voices died down.

"Is this for real?" Ken asked. "Judge Osgood, is he on the level?"

"I assure you that he is," Judge Osgood said. He had been patiently silent this whole time.

"Something about this stinks to me," Arnie from the harness shop then said.

"Shut up! Think of the money we'll make!" said another man.

"If you'll all simmer down there's more to tell," Mental called for order.

"There is a catch!" came the worried voices.

Mr. Greerson stood and came forward. "Boys, I don't know how else to tell you this except straight up. I'm not the owner of Greerson's Logging Company anymore. Mr. James Hunter is."
