So I found a copy of Mariette in Ecstasy and read part one ~ it's a quick easy read. I could probably finish it tonight if I had a mind to. I confess to being a little irritated by the subject matter and the style ~ because it's about a young girl who enters the convent of the Sisters of the Crucifixion and she becomes a stigmatic ~ and there really are no similarities in terms of the story to what I'm writing, but somehow it just irritated me anyway.

Perhaps what was more depressing was the style of the book itself ~ imagistic, cinematic ~ very much like what I was trying (or am trying) to do with Razi-el's Dream ~ and of course now I feel like just another poseur copycat. And even though I know that's not true, it's still frustrating ~ especially when you feel like you have something really original and sort of pure in that way and then you randomly come across something that's already been written which will just cause people to bed comparisons ~ and anyway, blech.

I think I'm just having an all-around frustratingly bad day and I should just chalk it up and go to bed. It's early, but I'm clearly very tired and crabby.
