i had to park in the one hour parking zone and then go back out and move my car this morning (it's 14 degrees out there with the wind chill factor). i had to do this because yesterday i got a parking ticket for $112 and now i have to go to the dmv this afternoon. last night the dog went on tear and ruined my skirt and the connector cord for my digital camera (grrrrrrrr!). the mailman lost my immunization records and i had to re-order them from the office of compliance. everything that could possibly go wrong for the morning here at work has gone wrong (kvetchy staff people, irate professors, technical rebellion from the computer.
but ~ !
i found a copy of College days at Georgetown, and other papers by J. Fairfax McLaughlin.
so everything is right with the world.

i'm reading Doctor Who ~ i like the story, though i'm sure i'm missing a lot of the nuances ~ and yeah, i think the writer leaves a lot to be desired ~ but it's good fun! i'm about halfway through and will finish this weekend.

re: nuances, i just find the book is primarily about Peri and the Pharoah (Eiremem ~ did i spell that right?) and their dealings with the racist redneck southrons.
There's a character who talks about the Doctor and what he's off doing (working in a prison hospital, etc.), but so far he's mostly been absent other than one scene where he and the narrating character save Lincoln from being shot. Otherwise the Doctor broods a lot (according to the narrator). i guess in anticipation of the assassination to come.
like i said before, i'm enjoying the story ~ the whole time displacement thing is fun and the scenario is amusing. but it feels like the writer is kitchen-sinking a lot of stuff and his narrative voices aren't very distinct or interesting.
(boy, i can go on can't i?)

Always feel like you can where I'm concerned. :D
There is sometimes an unfortunate tendency of some Dr Who spin-off writers to sideline the Doctor for large chunks of the story. I've never understood why (it never happened in the show), and I usually hate it when it happens bar the odd successful experiment that makes him seem more enigmatic.
But at the end of the day, the series is named after him, so he should be the star, eh?

i do like how all the other characters comment on how mysterious he is: the strange english guy in white. but i would rather like to spend more time with him and less with the other two women playing slave and master with the lecherous slobbering rebs.
maybe the story will turn ~ i'll let you know!
