I mocked up a single panel (these are triptychs, so really there would be three on a page ~ presumably connected), but I wanted to at least give you a sense of a corner of what it might look like when completed. Maybe it will help you visualize what you'd encounter on the page ~ hard to talk about word ideas ~ and I'm not very good at articulating either.

The picture is a sketch I pulled out of my sketchbook (so it's all ~ well ~ sketchy), and I just dumped a moody background on there so it wouldn't be blank white.I haven't made decisions about fonts or even balloon styles (though the "ribbon" style is what I'm leaning toward). The translation will prolly be in red, and will appear at the bottom as shown. The contrast in the picture came out rather shoddy ~ it really should have white highlights.

Again, this is only a test. In the event of an actual panel from an actual triptych, you would have likely heard trumpets because I'm pretty sure "Boots finishing something" is one of the signs of the apocalypse.
