eh--I think going down the worried-about-cliche trail is fruitless. All good stories are unique perspectives on cliche themes.
All your characters are unique and interesting
And YOU are unique and so is your writing voice and perspective.
C'mon boo, maybe it feels old to you because you've been at it a loooooong time but it's not really.
And stop reading blanket criticism of Civil War works and applying it to your story---just don't.
